The Style Edit, Wedding Edition: Pastels

One of the most noteworthy trends in bridesmaids’ dresses is mixing and matching design elements, whether it’s color, silhouette, accessories, or, for the adventurous bridal party—all of the above! Since spring is upon us, we’re highlighting one of the prettiest mix-and-match palette options for the bride’s best gals: pastels. Pastel dresses instantly add a soft, feminine appeal to your entire wedding motif.

Dressing the bridesmaids in various hues of pastel allows for a more individuality for each of the ladies while still creating a harmonious and cohesive look overall. It also adds more dimension and interest to your wedding photos!

Here are some useful tips to pull off a mix and match pastel look for your wedding:

Coordinate. While it’s easy to just give the girls free reign over what color of pastel they choose, make sure everyone is in communication with each other on what hues they want to wear—particularly if the group is spread out in different cities and not able to shop together. You want a good mix of pastels that look cohesive together, so giving the bridesmaids a little guidance is key.

A full shade apart. If you’re looking to do pastels in an ombré or gradient spectrum (soft shades of pink, for example), make sure each dress is at least a full shade away from the other. If two dresses are too similar in hue but not quite exact, it will end up looking off in pictures. Again, coordination with your bridesmaids is very important here.

Decide what elements to match. To keep the bridal party looking cohesive even when each girl is wearing a different shade of pastel, find elements that will stay the same across the board. Whether it’s hemline (long dresses vs short dresses), dress silhouette or fabrication, keeping a common thread will tie in the mixed pastels look together.

Of course, if you want to be more daring and bold, it’s totally fine to mismatch all elements! Anything goes!
